The council of the University of Baghdad held its seventh session under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi and the membership of his assistants for scientific & administrative affairs and the council secretary, in the presence of all members, deans of faculties, postgraduate institutes and centers to discuss a number of issues on the agenda. The members at first praised the role of the department of Diwan affairs in cooperation with most of the formations in the establishment of the flower exhibition in the campus, followed by reading Surah al-Fatiha for the spirits of two faculty members, i.e, the dean of the college of physical education and sports sciences Prof. Dr. Qassim Mohammed Hassan al-Khaqani, as well as the Assist. Prof. Dr. Zahra Hussein Mahdi from the department of biology at the college of education for pure and applied sciences (Ibn al-Haitham) whose scientific promotion to professorship is approved in this session.
Then the members approved the promotion of (26) to professorship and discussed matters related to the start of the official study hours of the first stage students, urging then to commit to attend lectures regularity in their departments in addition to addressing the latest preparations for the 64th central graduation ceremony of the academic year (2020-2021). Dr. Munir Hamid al-Saadi confirmed that he met with a number of professors of the colleges of medicine, engineering and science who achieved have a high h-index for publishing their research globally, recommending the need to form special committees in all university formations to review research of postgraduate students and professors in different disciplines before publishing them in international journals so as to upgrade the status of the University of Baghdad in global rankings.
In its minutes, the council discussed mechanisms for cooperation with international organizations in the fields of medicine, agriculture, pure sciences, arts and others, besides forming scientific groups to oversee research and developing scientific programs. Also the council discussed plans to equip scientific laboratories with modern devices and to develop practical and applied fields that refines the researcher’s experience and helps the student to understand theoretical materials and how to benefit from Iraqi researchers who completed their studies abroad in joint supervision on postgraduate studies. At the conclusion of this meeting, the members of the council discussed the prospects of cooperation mechanisms between the faculties and related entities, as well as discussing the university’s statistics in Scopus and other international repositories.
