The higher institute of accounting and financial studies for postgraduate studies at the University of Baghdad held a virtual workshop entitled “Accident and injury insurance in higher education” via Zoom platform under the direct supervision of the dean of the institute Prof. Dr. Fayha Abdullah Jacob in the presence of a number of professors and experts from various Iraqi universities and representatives of Iraqi national insurance companies.

At the opening of the workshop, Dr. Qusay Abdul Khaleq Fadhil, an assistant professor from the college of management and economics at the University of Diyala delivered a lecture on health crises in the Iraqi Universities through a case study of the Covid-19 pandemic and then Mr. Ahmed Mazher Abdul Mahdi, director of car insurance department at the Iraqi Pubic Insurance Company talked about the advantages of accident & work insurance policies adopted in the country. Also Suhair Sayed Hassanein al-Sheikh, the assistant director of fire and accident branch at the company gave an overview on the price of insurance specified in the accident document.

At the end of the workshop, several recommendations were reached at with reference to the government’s most important role in collecting and organizing data on damages that affect individuals and property in order to develop a health program to address these risks and the need for providing tools of action and coordination with administrative leaderships on one hand and involving the university community on the other. The participants stressed on applying health programs to face the risk of epidemics and the significance of cooperation with those responsible in our educational institutions to have their turn in spreading the insurance culture and following health procedures among students such as reducing the number of students in classrooms, social distancing and other measures to minimize the risk of infection.
