The photonics unit at the Laser Institute for Graduate Studies held an online symposium on “Nanooptic and microoptic technology and applications” which was initiated by a speech of the dean of the institute, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Ali Jawad who praised the continuous scientific efforts by the staff during this critical situation. The first lecture was given by Assist. Prof. Dr. Tahrer Safa Mansour on deigning a micro-optical device to discover Covid-19, considered as the most important weapon for optical communications engineers who work in the face of this pandemic.

The second lecture was delivered by the lecturer Dr. Jawad Abdul Kazim Hassan on Nanoantennas in THz communications in which he stressed on the increasing need to accelerate the pace of processing and transfer of information to meet the requirements of increasing computerized applications in medicine and communications which requires a new infrastructure not based on transistors.

The third lecture was delivered by the director of the photonics unit, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ziad Ayad Taha on manufacturing micro-optic & nano-optic devices and their effective and important impacts in the development of all optical systems involved in communications, health, civil and military industry. The fourth lecture was given by the lecturer Dr. Hana’ Sami Bashir who discussed the relationship between the photonic technology and smart cities and how to employ this technology to inspire users and producers of this technology for maximum use. The last lecture delivered by Dr. Rasha Hashim Mahdi who studied the thermal response of the diseased tissues to Nano antennas for data transfer.
