For the third consecutive year, the University of Baghdad has achieved a new progress in the British Times Higher Education Ranking for the Best global universities in its 17th issue for 2021 by scoring the (+1001) rank out of (1527) universities. This classification included the participation of (93) countries and (131) new universities compared to last year, based on data from nearly 2,000 leading research universities around the world and more than 22,000 responses to the questionnaire that focused on academic reputation, as well as the publication of 13.6 million research papers and more than 86 million citations over the course of five years, according to Elsevier database.

This British ranking classifies universities according to five basic criteria (teaching, research, citation, industry income and international outlook). Three Iraqi universities were ranked for 2021 which are (University of Baghdad for the third year, University of Basra and University of Technology University for the second year). It is worth mentioned that this achievement comes in accordance with the objectives of the ministry of higher education and scientific research and in implementation of the strategic plan of the University of Baghdad.
