As part of the efforts of His Excellency the president of the Republic of Iraq in the meeting and listening to the views of various official and popular parties, Dr. Barham Salih met at the Peace Palace in Baghdad a number of university rectors, academics, presidents and representatives of professional unions to discuss the current situation in the country and the efforts exerted to nominate a prime minister for an interim government within constitutional timings and contexts.
During his speech, His Excellency the president stressed the importance of involving the various elites in resolving the national choice of the Prime Minister of the interim government whose main duty is to meet the eligibility requirements for reform as well as to prepare for fair elections in accordance with a fair electoral law.
Also Dr. Barham Salih stressed that the candidate for this position should be accepted by the Iraqi people and meeting their aspirations and hopes for a free and dignified life within constitutional times and contexts in line with the ultimate goal to maintain the peacefulness of the demonstrations.
The president of the Republic of Iraq listened to the views of the attendees through a frank and a constructive dialogue regarding the reform movement going on now, its legitimate demands and how to work together to make the current peaceful demonstrations as a starting point for real and radical reform for the political process in Iraq in general and to begin the phase of rebuilding our beloved country and protecting the rights of citizens.
