The fifth stage student at the department of architecture, college of engineering, University of Baghdad Fatima Jamal al-Maqdadi received a paid master’s grant from the Coventry University in UK along with a medal of honor to the student and her supervisor Dr. Sajida Kazim al-Kindi as an international excellence award for her project entitled (the development of the area surrounding al-Mustansiriyah School). The project won the first place after competing with (268) projects worldwide and was characterized with the originality of its urban and eco-friendly solutions for heritage areas in Iraq in general and in Baghdad in particular with the aim to reduce the number of surrounding areas and to remove buildings that have low architectural value, also to link al-Mustansiriyah School with nearby historic buildings such as Al-khafiqain Mosque, Al-Saffarain Market in addition to the construction of corridors and service buildings with the same archaeological style and a tourist platform on Tigris as a river entrance in order to highlight the school’s landmarks.
