Department of water resources engineering at the college of engineering, University of Baghdad held a symposium entitled “Water scarcity and damage caused by the implementation of Ilısu dam on Tigris’ revenues in Iraq”. The symposium addressed matters related to the reality of water imports, the impact of Ilısu dam and the techniques that contribute to water scarcity and reduce evaporation. The participants reached at some recommendations, the most important of which is the need for continued coordination between the specialized academic bodies and the formations of the ministry of water resources in studying the current situation and the proposals for the operation and maintenance of water projects, hydraulic installations and irrigation projects in addition to preparation of strategic plans for border rivers and river feeders and development of measurement and control of stations at appropriate locations on those rivers.
