The Center for Strategic and International Studies at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science, organized a scientific symposium entitled The Multidimensional Aspects of the 34th Arab–Iraqi Summit: A Comprehensive Analysis of Challenges and Prospects.
The symposium aimed to enhance academic awareness of the significance of the Arab–Iraqi Summit, hosted in Baghdad on May 17, 2025, and to explore avenues for advancing joint Arab action in response to regional and international challenges. These include the escalating conflict in Gaza, ongoing crises in Syria, Yemen, and Sudan, as well as the economic and security difficulties facing many Arab countries.
Several faculty members from the Center participated in the symposium, including Lecturer Dr. Jaafar Al-Sadiq Mahdi Atiyah, Assistant Lecturer Rasha Fadel Jazza’, and Assistant Lecturer Ali Abdul-Muttalib Sadiq. They delivered comprehensive analytical presentations on the political, security, economic, and social challenges confronting the Arab region, and reviewed the key outcomes of the Baghdad 2025 Summit, highlighting its visions and initiatives for addressing regional and global issues.
At the conclusion of the symposium, participants proposed a number of recommendations, most notably: the adoption of a democratic operational framework within the Arab League to ensure role integration among member states; the establishment of a permanent reconstruction and relief fund under joint supervision by the Arab League and the United Nations; the launch of an Arab initiative for regional peace and security, including mechanisms for military and security coordination, and the promotion of Arab economic integration through joint projects in energy and infrastructure; structural reforms to grant the Arab League greater autonomy in executing joint Arab initiatives; and the inclusion of civil society organizations in relief and reconstruction efforts, along with the expansion of Arab diplomatic channels for dialogue with influential international powers.
