Abstract

the present invention involve synthesis of some tertiary amine salt compounds containing long hydrocarbon chains as a non polar groups (hydrophobic group) in addition to ammonium group as a polar group (hydrophilic group). The synthetized long hydrcarbon chains ammonium salts were found to act as a corrosion inhibitor for carbon-steel with a higher efficiency( 81-97%). This behavior of corrosion inhibition of ammonium salts with long hydrocarbon chains may be due to isolation of metal surface of carbon steel by complexation of these compounds with surface of carbon steel and a non polar nature (oily or waxy nature)of that long hydrocarbon chains of synthesized ammonium salts.
