{"id":56335,"date":"2025-11-09T09:07:23","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T06:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=56335"},"modified":"2025-11-09T09:10:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T06:10:06","slug":"university-of-baghdad-enters-era-of-clean-energy-with-launch-of-sustainable-fusion-energy-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=56335","title":{"rendered":"University of Baghdad Enters Era of Clean Energy with Launch of Sustainable Fusion Energy Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>In a bold scientific initiative reflecting the University of Baghdad\u2019s forward-looking commitment to innovation and addressing global environmental challenges, the University Council, during its fourth session of the 2025\u20132026 academic year, discussed the \u201cPlasma Fusion and Sustainable Energy Laboratory\u201d project and approved its adoption as one of the university\u2019s strategic developmental initiatives.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The project aims to explore the potential of alternative energy sources in response to the growing global demand for clean, safe, and sustainable energy. The Council recommended the formation of an advisory team comprising experts from Iraq and abroad in the fields of physics, engineering, energy, and laser technologies to provide the scientific and technical guidance necessary for the project\u2019s success. The College of Engineering was tasked with identifying the most suitable location for establishing the first model laboratory for nuclear fusion energy in accordance with international standards. Additionally, the Council recommended allocating financial support to procure the required equipment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>As part of the implementation phase, the university decided to establish a high-level supervisory committee to develop execution plans, monitor progress, and provide support to the research teams involved. The project will be carried out by a specialized technical team consisting of researchers and faculty members from the College of Engineering and other relevant academic units.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>It is worth noting that fusion plasma represents the fourth state of matter, formed when gases are heated to extremely high temperatures\u2014exceeding millions of degrees\u2014resulting in the ionization of atoms. Producing fusion plasma in laboratory settings remains a significant scientific challenge and is considered the most promising avenue for generating vast amounts of clean and safe energy, free from carbon emissions and without producing harmful radioactive isotopes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>This project marks a qualitative leap in enhancing the University of Baghdad\u2019s role in the fields of innovation and clean energy, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and aligning with global scientific and technological advancements.
