The College of Science for Women, Women’s Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad, organized an awareness workshop titled “Together for a Safe Society: Understanding Types of Violence and Ways to Combat It.”<\/p>\n
The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of violence and its negative effects on women, both psychologically and physically, as well as the arbitrary deprivation of their freedom, rights to equality, and sense of safety and security.<\/p>\n
The event covered various types of violence, including physical violence inflicted by fathers, brothers, husbands, and even occasionally sons, as well as violence occurring outside the home, such as harassment in public spaces, workplace extortion, direct violence through discriminatory laws and decisions, and indirect violence through the prevalence of ideas that allow tolerance for violence against women in society.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the workshop addressed psychological violence, including the humiliation, marginalization, ridicule, and restriction of a woman’s freedom and respect. It also discussed the persistence of violence despite the existence of deterrent laws in the Iraqi constitution.<\/p>\n
The activity proposed several solutions to combat violence against women, such as tightening penalties against perpetrators of violence, establishing appropriate mechanisms for reporting cases of violence and assault, and enacting a law to combat domestic violence that takes into account the social context of Iraqi society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
