The College of Pharmacy participated in the Fifteenth International Graduate Studies Conference of the Midwest in America, sponsored by the University of Toledo. This participation involved delivering a seminar on the master’s research conducted by the student, Russl Mohammed Hassan Ali, in the field of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The lecture was titled: “Thiadiazole Derivatives as Possible Histone Deacetylase Enzyme Inhibitors.”<\/p>\n
The study aimed to design new HDAC inhibitors containing thiadiazole moiety. This study involved the design and computational analysis of a series of thiadiazole derivatives using the Maestro program. Compounds with good docking scores included compounds 6a, 6b, and 6c compared to the FDA-approved vorinostat. Compounds 6a, 6b, and 6c underwent organic synthesis using conventional chemical reactions, and the intermediate and final products were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
