{"id":41673,"date":"2023-04-30T11:01:16","date_gmt":"2023-04-30T08:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=41673"},"modified":"2023-04-30T11:01:16","modified_gmt":"2023-04-30T08:01:16","slug":"a-professor-from-the-college-of-engineering-gets-a-patent-in-using-a-manufactured-low-cost-substance-to-remove-lead-and-cadmium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=41673","title":{"rendered":"A professor from the College of Engineering gets a patent in using a manufactured low-cost substance to remove lead and cadmium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Prof. Dr. Ayad Abdulhamza Faisal, from the department of Environment Engineering at the College of Engineering, university of Baghdad has obtained a patent from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC ),at the Ministry of Planning entitled: \u201d Using a manufactured low-cost substance to remove lead and cadmium from its aqueous solutions \u201d, this patent is a part of the thesis written by the student Teba Saadi Hussein.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The study aims at manufacturing\u00a0 a new sorbent that can be applied in permeable reactive barrier (PRB) technique for the treatment of simulated water (aqueous solution) contaminated with inorganic materials especially Lead (Pb), and Cadmium (Cd), which includes the utilization of alum as cheapest compound and Plaster Kiln Dust (PKD) by-product waste resulted from gypsum industry and Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) in the production of Nano-sized Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) of Aluminium (Al+3) and Calcium(Ca+2) and immobilized on the iron-slag surfaces (by-product waste resulted from steel iron industry) to create novel sorbent named\u201d \u201ciron-slag coated with (Ca\/Al-CTAB)-LDH. The synthesis parameters require CTAB 0.035 g\/50 mL, pH 10, (Ca\/Al) molar ratio 2, and dosage of iron-slag 1 g\/50 mL.. All tests proven 1- batch tests that the prepared material has high efficiency in the remediation of water contaminated with mentioned contaminates, for the initial contamination concentration of ( 50
