The Center for Women’s Studies at the University of Baghdad has organized recently a workshop on the launch of the results of a survey of women’s voting behavior in the 2021 Iraqi parliamentary elections, trends, determinants and factors influencing their electoral choices in cooperation with the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and the Provincial Women’s Empowerment Department (PWED) as the Order No. 32 for 2021, in the presence of a number of researchers interested in women’s affairs.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to strengthen the role of demonstrating the turnout of women\u2019s voting behavior in the latest elections that took place in Iraq and to strengthen the role of female members of the House of Representatives in this regard. The guide dealt with determining the role of women as voters and addressing the challenges they face to reach at strategic solutions, while taking into account the generalization of gender perspective in the procedures of the Independent High Electoral Commission on polling day, the motives for women’s participation in this process and the reasons behind their participation, as well as the orientations and determinants of their voting behavior. The workshop came up with several recommendations, including the need for the Independent High Electoral Commission to review the distribution of electoral centers in future constituencies and to provide full protection to them in polling stations, as well as taking into account the privacy of women while enhancing their participation by providing female staff on the polling day.<\/p>\n
