A number of professors of the center for women’s studies at the University of Baghdad have participated recently in the conclusion of a series of the meetings overseeing the political empowerment of women and promoting their participation in parliamentary elections that have witnessed numerous activities, including various workshops and training courses. The participation of the center focused on preparing and drafting three guidelines on behalf of the high committee of this event, namely the integration of gender with the procedures of the Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), the political participation of women in accordance with the Electoral Law of the Councils of Deputies No. 9 of 2020 related to guidelines for the political representation of women, as well as the strengthening of the role of members of the House of Representatives in parliamentary work as a guide to the parliamentary practice in Iraq.<\/p>\n

Also the center prepared an opinion poll on the public’s assessment of women’s political participation to measure the attitudes of women voters towards voting for women in Iraq and women’s voting behavior, in addition to organizing a training and advisory workshops chaired by specialists in the legal environment and its effects or consequences on the political representation of women in the country, according to the order No. 32 of 2021. For her part, Dr. Yusra Kareem Muhsin, the Director-General of the Department of Women’s Empowerment at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, praised the cooperation mechanism adopted by the UN Women team in this regard, noting that it is the most important partner and supporter of women’s empowerment programs in Iraq.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
