The department of geography at the college of education for women held a scientific symposium on “Iraq\u2019s maritime boundaries between reality and ambition” via Free Conference Call service. The participants highlighted the role of these borders in activating the maritime traffic and developing the integrated economic development strategy so as to promote Iraq’s international trade and to identify the most important maritime and land environmental impacts resulting from the construction of ports.<\/p>\n

The symposium included the presentation of a number of working papers, including the transport, political and economic aspects. The studies came out with a number of recommendations that emphasized the need to take concrete measures in order to adopt the regional maritime legislation, investment and negotiations with Kuwait for the development and support of Iraqi ports, especially in regard to Khor Abdullah estuary. They called for stopping the offences of the polluting party and their financial consequences in addition to increasing the downstream depth and to support Iraqi manufacturing that can contribute to not relying on crude oil exports.<\/p>\n
