The continuing education unit at the college of education for women, in collaboration with the department of home economics held an electronic lecture entitled “Self-Charts” delivered by Prof. Dr. Intisar Kamal Al-Ani via Google Meet service.\u00a0The lecturer aimed to clarify the notions related to this topic and its relation to human attention and reception of new knowledge. Dr. Intisar al-Ani explained that self-charts in psychology and cognitive sciences are identified as a coordinated pattern of thinking or behavior that regulates categories of data and overlapping relationships and it can also be described as a mental building of preconceived ideas in a framework that reflects one aspect of life.\u00a0 So these charts affect what people often notice since they perceive things that are corresponded to their related self-charts, while reinterpreting or distorting things that contradict with their perceptions to conform to their charts.<\/p>\n

Also Dr. Intisar al-Ani stated that a self-chart is a mental representation that enables us to organize our knowledge in categories, to simplify our interactions with the world more quickly yet some of our self-charts may be stereotypes that make us misinterpret information incorrectly, for this reason charts can be modified through comprehension as we acquire more information in any field. At the end of her lecture, the lecturer recommended conducting in-depth research in this topic in a more analytical manner by psychologists and specialists because of its reflections on the psychological health, while stressing on bringing-up children in a way that promotes self-awareness to help them later to draw more realistic self-charts for their lives.<\/p>\n
