The Biological Research Unit for Hot Areas in collaboration with the continuing education unit at the college of science organized a seminar on “Gene therapy for leukemia patients” delivered by Assist. Lecturer Istabaq Akram Biram with the participation of a number of researchers and those concerned with human medicine.<\/p>\n

The lecturer addressed the topic of adopting gene therapy for the treatment of leukemia patients using (T-cells) as one of the important white blood cells of the immune system that have a central role in the adaptive immune response. The lecturer Istabaq Akram added that after collecting these cells from blood, we can genetically modify them to produce artificial receptors (Chimeric antigen receptors) on their surface to be able to identify a certain protein on the surface of cancer cells to be reproduced then in laboratory in order to treat certain antigens known as (CD19). Finally she confirmed that future research must be continued to find the best cures for various genetic diseases.<\/p>\n
