Chemical Engineering Department Symposium
 Nanotechnology and Renewable Energy<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/span>The world wide scientific revolution of the nanotechnology nowadays is very much similar to the industrial revolution that made the world perform its biggest changes. The nanotechnology gave every industry unique and special properties with minimum cost compared to the conventional industry.
For this reason, the Chemical Eng. Dept. held a symposium introduced some of the subjects in nanotechnology that are related to renewable energy on Thursday the 13th of December. It was attended by several members of the staff of the College of Engineering, and people from the Ministry of Electricity, Ministry of Environment and the Center for Market Research and Consumer Care. The symposium two sessions, the first was headed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Basma Abbas Abdulmajeed with the help of Asst. Prof. Dr. Sawsan Abed Moslem Mohammed and it included six researches;
1.Renewable energy through nanotechnology by Asst. Prof. Dr. Talib Al-Saffar.
2.Enhancement of Si-based solar cell efficiency via nanostructure by Ph. D. student Asir Abduljabbar Salih.
3.Organic photovoltaic cells by Ph. D. student Lubna Abdul Karim.
4.Nanostructured electrodes and devices for converting carbon dioxide back to fuels by Ph. D. student Mohammed Sabah Mohammed.
5.Nanostructure design for hydrogen storage by Ph. D. student Tyba Mohammed Darwish.
6.Nanomaterials in fuel cell technology by Ph. D. student Ban Abdulrahman Ahmed.
The head of the second session was Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Khazaal Homadi and helped him Asst. Prof. Dr. Nada Saadon Ahmed Zaki. It included the following researches:
1. Nanotechnology lithium ion battery by Ph. D. student Muthafar Yaqoob Hussain.
2.Aero gel for energy saving by Ph. D. student Mohammed Kamil.
3.Aero gels for energy storage (super capacitor) by Ph. D. student  Soror Abullah.
4.Energy from pzt nanofibers by Ph. D. student  Nawras Jamil Jasim.
5.Window glass coatings by Ph. D. student Asmaa Hassan Dhiaa.
The symposium conclusions were:
1.Emphasis on future nanotechnology researches that are in the service of Iraq.
2. Emphasis on this technology to be included in the Ph. D. thesis.
3.Emphasis on further future symposium by the Department to focus on the latest developments.
4.Emphasis on the necessity for the College of Eng. to focus on these researches and the related <\/p>\n
