Adil\/Department of Physics,\u00a0College of Science for Women,\u00a0University of Baghdad<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"color: #3366ff\">Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The dielectric barrier discharge \u2013 floating electrode (DBD \u2013 FE) was designed for production of cold atmospheric plasma and to be used in the treatment of breast cancer. The dielectric barrier discharge \u2013 floating electrode (DBD \u2013 FE)\u00a0 is a special kind of dielectric barrier discharge system, where the floating electrode is fed by high voltage voltages while the second pole represents the living tissue where plasma is generated between the floating\u00a0 electrode and the living tissue. The made system was tested to inhibit cancer cells, the test was done\u00a0 in two ways:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>First<\/strong>, the laboratory study on the cancerous tissue (in vitro ). The cell line cancer (MCF-7) were cultured. After their growth, they were divided into three groups, every group was exposed to cold plasma for specific time. Three time interval of exposure were chosen: ( 5, 10, 15 ) sec. The effect of cold plasma was measured after three different times intervals (24, 48 , 72)h. \u00a0The\u00a0 percentage inhibition of cancer cells was calculated. It is found that percentage inhibition of cancer cells was reached to 60%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Second<\/strong>, the direct study on the mice (in vivo), the group of mice with aged 6-8 weeks were selected in this study, they had been injected by AM3 breast cancer cell line. The group of mice were divided into four subgroups every group consist of\u00a0 five mice, one of these group was left as control group. After the growth of the tumour, the tumour was exposed to cold plasma using the plasma system for different time\u2019s intervals (20, 40, 50) sec. The size of the tumour was measured for every 48 h. and the mean was taken the results compare with the control group.\u00a0It was found the volume of tumour of the control group was increased with time, while for the other groups the volume of tumour was still nearly constant or decrease slowly with time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Inventor:\u00a0Prof. Dr. Hamid H.
