Department of Petroleum Presents the Use of NNA to Plan New Horizontal Wells in Ain Zalah Field <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

 Diar Hassan Ali, a postgraduate student in the Department of Petroleum, presented his thesis “Using Neural Network Algorithm to Plan New Horizontal Wells in Ain Zalah Field” in a seminar at the department hall. <\/p>\n

The study aims at applying the technology of neural network in designing and applying horizontal well technology to increase the production of Oil in Ain Zalah field, 100 Km north of Mosul. The first well in this field was drilled in 1936, it was completed in 1939 and production started in 1952. <\/p>\n

 The researcher demonstrated the distribution of porosity values, fluid saturations and clay within the reservoir. He explained the reservoir division he followed and the divisions and thickness of the productive units. He presented three dimensional maps for the distribution of porosity, permeability and fluid saturations. Then he moved to displaying the changes in the characteristics of reservoir fluids with pressure and heat according to lab tests to a number of reservoir fluids samples. At the end of the presentation, he made a comparison between the results of the reserve estimation of this reservoir from a previous study and the results obtained in his study. He also explained the remaining parts of his study. <\/p>\n

Then the audience (faculty and postgraduate students) was invited to discuss the subject of the study with the student. The session was run by Assist. Prof. Sameera Mohammad HamduAllah, Ph.D, coordinator of the department for postgraduate students. <\/p>\n

 It is worth mentioning that this study is one of postgraduate students projects accomplished under joint supervision by the Department of Petroleum Engineering in the University of Baghdad and that of the University of Colorado in the United States. This thesis is supervised by both Prof. Mohammad Salih, Ph.D and Prof. Craig W. Van Kirk,Ph.D. who is a well-known professor in the field of petroleum engineering. <\/p>\n
