A study on the importance of soil and land productivity for grain crops in central Iraq <\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

  The college of agriculture at Baghdad University witnessed discussion of a master thesis submitted by the student “Abeer Mohammed Ahmed” entitled “the relationship between the characteristics of soil and land productivity of some crops in central Iraq by the use of geographic information systems (GIS)”. This study aimed at studying the productivity of soil units and their relationship with some general characteristics along with clarify the status of spatial distribution for cultivation of wheat and barley crops using geographic information systems. The study area is located in “Al-Muafakia” district in Wasit province in central Iraq used especially for cultivation of wheat, barley, corn as well as vegetable by irrigation. The results indicated a discrepancy in the productivity of land unit for wheat and barley crops ranging between (2000 – 2350 kg\/ha) for wheat and (2000 – 2350 kg\/ha) for barley in 1992, while in 2015, the productivity of land unit for wheat and barley crops was (4000 kg\/ha). Among the most important characteristics that influenced negatively on productivity were the high rate of salinity and low rate of organic carbon in the study area. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
