The college of engineering holds a symposium on the reality and prospects for sustainable development in Iraq

  The department of environmental engineering at the college of engineering, university of Baghdad held a symposium on (the reality and prospects for sustainable development in Iraq) with the participation of researchers and specialists. The symposium was opened with a welcome address by dead of the department, Dr. Shahla Ismail who welcomed the guests and the professors who participated in this symposium. Dr. Zeinab Ziad Ismail, Dr. Haidar Mohammed Abdul Hamid delivered lectures that dealt with discussing some important concepts concerning the environmental reality in Iraq, such as sustainable development, its objectives, components, dimensions and general areas of application, as well as studying the most important goals of environmental reality of our country. Also they talked about the impact of environmental degradation on sustainable development and the current vision of it in Iraq, discussing the most important weaknesses of environmental reality, finding solutions and stressing on the importance of joint action in cooperation with the relevant ministries. At the end of the symposium, the door was opened for discussion with the audience, explaining how to develop the foundations of sustainable development in Iraq, the need to implement legal provisions on the protection of the environment, in addition to creating a mechanism for cooperation with all ministries to provide support for the promotion of our environmental realty.
