College of arts celebrates an instructor who won the literary creativity award and organises a lecture entitled the university and the community

  Department of Arabic language at the college of arts, university of Baghdad held a celebration on the book “we and the other in contemporary Arabic novel” that had won the literary creativity award in 2014 by the “Arabic thought foundation” authored by Dr. Abdullah Kadhim, a proffessor in criticism and comparative and modern literature at the department. This celebration included a summary of the scientific and academic status of that professor, given by Dr. Haidar Fadel, then Dr. Najam Abdullah Kadhim dealt with his literary and scientific life, followed by a reference to his book (the other in literature) and his another book that won the ward of the Arabic thought foundation. The attendants participated in this dialogue with Dr.Najim Kadhim such as Dr. Ehsan al-Haidari, Dr. Yousif Iskander, Dr. Haidar Mohammed Jabr. Then prof. Dr. Mohammed Thari, Dr. Ehsan al-Haidari, Dr. Ali Khlaif, Dr. Haidar Fadel handed Dr. Najam Abdullah Kadhim with accolades and certificates of appreciation submitted by the dean of the college of arts and head of the department of Arabic language and the cultural committee at the college. This event was attended by the assistant of the dean for administrative affairs, Dr. Khamis al-Tamimi and assistant of dean for scientific affairs, Dr. Ihsan al-Haidari, head of the department of Arabic language, Dr. Ali Khlaif and a gathering of professors, primary and postgraduate students. On the other hand, the department of history hosted a lecture delivered by former minister of culture, Mufid al-Jazairi entitled “culture and society’ dealing with the importance of the interaction between the cultural atmpospher and the university to reform the society through performing the real role of the university that is to educate people and raise their awareness. Dr. al-Jazairi reviewed some of his memories when he was a minister of culture and when he was attending with the minister of higher education then Taher al-Bakaa a meeting of opinion body with university presidents, accompanied by the ministers of education and science and technology, stating that all the ministers the were performing their responsibilities towards reforming society during that period. The lecture reached at some recommendations such as expansion of curricula for the students of the first stage, working towards transforming the entire university into a permenant cultural area and a large space for debate and dialogue, exchange of opinions and enhancing competition to develop intellect and imagination so as to support its role in serving the community
