An instructor at the university of Baghdad publishes two important papers in two world journals by selecting one as one of the latest papers in petroleum engineering

Dr. Dargham Sakban, an instructor at the department of petroleum engineering, college of engineering, university of Baghdad, published two papers entitled “alternative treatment process to upgrade from waste water and oil refinery by using electricity” and “F cure for Florida petrol (uent) by using two electrochemical reactor tubes” in “Petroleum Science” and “Petroleum Science and Technology” that are among sober scientific journals. The first research deals with the development of electric coagulation process in treatment and improving the characteristics of liquid waste from oil refinery (waste water) rather than traditional methods that can consume greater quantities of chemicals and producing a great heat. The researcher studied the effect of the following coefficients: current density, initial pH, Anode, Anode solubility, energy consumption and electrical time on the efficiency of treatment. Experimental results showed that liquid waste can be effectively treated under optimal conditions such as FTIR, SEM and EDAX, showed that unwanted pollutants can be eliminated and the whole chemical process can be estimated through using COD and TSS and that electrical coagulation is an effective process for oil water recycling in a fast way. The other research dealt with electro-oxidation method that is considered as a new treatment technology for waste water purification from petroleum refineries that showed about 85% of COD removal and removal of total petroleum hydrocarbons in optimal conditions of 30 Ma/CM2 current, 8 pH, 4 G/L salt concentration, 120LPH flow rate, treatment time during 24 minutes by using a electrochemical reactor tube. The results showed the applicability of electrochemical technology as an alternative to recycling and reuse of oil water and this technology is considered very important since it reduces time, volume of water consumed and waste water disposal. This research was selected as one of the latest Arabic published researches in petroleum engineering chosen by the organization of Arab scientific community.
