Urban planning center at Baghdad university participates in an international conference on environment in Turkey

Center of urban and regional planning for graduate studies at the university of Baghdad participated in the 2nd international conference hosted by Adiman university, Turkey entitled “environmental ethics”. This participation came through a joint research submitted by associate professor Dr. Nada Khalifa al-Rikabi and Dr. Suad Jaber al-Waili entitled (sustainable environmental management of solid waste: production of renewable energy) through the quest of the center and its instructors to keep abreast with the latest developments through its active presence in world scientific forums hosted by the universities in other countries in a way reflected positively on their role in teaching, research and other fields. This topic is considered as one of the important themes in environmental management because renewable energy is derived from natural regenerated resources that differ substantially from fossil fuels of oil, coal, natural gas and nuclear fuel used in nuclear reactors and that do not arise from remnants of (CO2) or any harmful gases that do not increase global warming such as that caused by combustion of fossil fuels or harmful nuclear waste resulted from nuclear reactors. Renewable energy is resulted from wind, water or sun in addition to waves movement, tides, geothermal energy, agricultural crops and trees that produce oils, but the last one increases further global warming. Researches and studies presented at the conference confirmed the possibility of producing renewable energy in hydroelectric power plants by great dams wherever possible on rivers and watersheds, also rely on wind and solar energy widely in developed countries and some developing countries, so that many countries have developed plans to increase the proportion of renewable energy production to cover their energy needs by 20% of consumption in 2020. Also researches confirmed on the increase in renewable energy trading as a type of business that transforms renewable energy sources into income sources and how to promote them despite many nontechnical obstacles that prevent the spread of renewable energies widely such as high investment costs and indicating increased interest in them during recent years, especially in the Middle East.
