University of Baghdad participates in the 1st international conference of the holy Shiite shrines in Iraq

  College of education for women at the university of Baghdad participated in the first international scientific conference of the general secretariat of the holy Shiite shrines in Iraq held in Najaf sponsored by the Shiite endowment under the slogan (Iraq is the cradle of prophets and home of saints). The website of the college conveyed the participation of the college through its dean assistant professor Dr. Shurouq Kazim Salman and prof. Dr. Hassan Mandeel, the instructor at the department of Arabic language in the membership of the preparatory and scientific committees and researches submitted to the conference. The conference witnessed scientific sessions of more than 100 scholars from various countries and universities, the participation of 12 Arab and foreign countries and 50 world personalities with the presence of many researchers, writers and academics from inside and outside of Iraq and those interested. The deputy secretary-general of the Shiite shrines professor Dr. Hassan Mandeel stated in the opening of the conference that “holding of this conference in the city of science and scientists (Najaf) came to commemorate all the shrines of Iraq in response to terrorism as well as studying them scientifically and academically”. Mandeel added that dozens of researchers, writers and academics from inside and outside Iraq, Arab and foreign countries including (Algeria, Palestine, Egypt, Azerbaijan, India, Lebanon and other countries), indicating that (100) papers were approved by the scientific committee to participate in this conference. The proceedings of the conference were concluded with a discussion of six papers and (12) recommendations were reached at and delivered by Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Araji including a call to form a higher Committee to follow up these recommendations and to form a media committee next year, addressing terrorist threat directed towards the religious shrines, also continuing communication and interaction with other religious foundations and centers. A call was directed to issue an encyclopedia on Shiite shrines and stressing on openness, cooperation and coordination with international organizations concerned with humanitarian and religious heritage, particularly with UNESCO and issuing a book that covers the conference’ researches and a Committee concerned with religious tourism affairs and to translate these papers to English and French. After that appreciation certificates were granted to researchers and participants and Sheikh Ahmad Murad delivered a speech of AL QABAS association for keeping shrines and antiquities in Lebanon where he stressed on the importance of holding such conferences which document the relationship between the sponsors of the Shiite shrines in Muslim countries and he thanked the secretariat represented by its secretary general Mr. Abbas Sheikh Mohammad Riza al-Saidi for this invitation, then the speech of the delegation of Azerbaijan that appreciated this event, recalling that this conference is not limited to one specific country but it is for the whole world and that the world stands with Iraq in the face of terrorism. On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition of Arabic fonts and photo gallery about the shrines that faced terrorism.
