Ibn al-Haytham college discusses the importance of twinning programs with world universities


The department of physics at the college of education for pure sciences, university of Baghdad gave a lecture entitled “twinning: concept and objectives” within the cultural season of a series of educational lectures at the department of physics. Prof. Dr. Samir Atta Mackie reviewed what higher education going through in the Arab world in different fields of life when facing difficult historical events causing divergence from the civilized role that must be achieved. The researcher noted that the aim of twinning programs in universities in 1922 is to establish cooperation between universities with an emphasis on the importance of transferring knowledge and promoting academic solidarity in various parts of the world which is the first factor for spreading love and brotherhood among human beings no matter how civilizations and sects differ today and such vision is a twinning and a scientific partnership with the global leading universities through agreements to reach the ranks of international universities, facilitating visiting programs , exchange of experiences and enhancing faculty performance, building bridges of knowledge  and follow-up between our universities and their global counterparts and submitting reports about them to the presidency of the university on research projects, especially in physics and mathematics. The lecturer talked also about future plans for promoting university partnerships with sober universities, pointing to the experience of a number of colleges and universities in Iraq which had previously entered into such partnership in the past years with U.S., France, Turkey, Germany, Canada and Britain in different h as medicine, engineering, banking, business administration, petroleum and planning.It is worth to mention the cooperation between the faculties of engineering at the university of Baghdad and the Australian Swinburne university  by preparing a project for twinning of departments of civil engineering in these two universities for unification of curriculum and examinations, supporting the educational process and researches in Iraq, improving the educational level of the students to enable them to obtain graduate certificates that are internationally accredited since they need such projects to improve the performance of the educational institutions that have suffered over the past decades from lack of contact with their counterparts in developed countries so that to reduce the scientific gap. At the end of the lecture, open discussion and dialogue between the audience and the lecturer carried on to enrich this subject, making recommendations for developing this important scientific program.
