Workshop on environmental pollution

Within the activities of the department of biology at the college of education for pure sciences Ibn al-Haytham, a workshop was held on environmental pollution and its risks on the 17th and 18th of March 2014 for the students of intermediate school of the martyr Othman Ali al-Obeidi and the secondary school of Adhamiya for Boys at the department of biology at the college. The workshop included tours in:
1 . Microbiology laboratory where the instructor Sundus Abdul Muhaimin gave an introductory lecture about bacteria, their spread, types and diseases as well as how to isolate them from skin and the mobile devices, how to develop them in agricultural fields and how to examined them microscopically.
2 . Environment laboratory where Dr. Maha Abdul-Nabi gave a lecture on the importance of water for keeping organisms alive and the amount of the wasted water at home use, in addition to clarifying the types of the chemicals used domestically and gone with the sewage and their effects on aquatic organisms (algae, crustaceans, fish). In the practical side, D. Maha Abdul Nabi and assistant teacher Alia Hussein explained how to examine samples of contaminated water, how to use microscope, how to prepare a slide for a drop of water and presenting a short film about the dangers of pollution faced by man in his environment.
3 . Insects Laboratory: with the supervision of assistant prof. Dr. Nawal Sadek Mahdi and the presence of assistant teacher,  Intisar Faisal and assistant teacher, Zainab Hamid, the students were given an idea about the insects, their spread and a brief summary of the body of the insect and their species.
4 . Botanical garden where the prof. Dr. Athia Nahi Salman gave an explanation for students about the most important plant species.
5 . A lecture about the dangers of radiation by prof. Dr. Nahla al-Bakri, head of biology and prof. Dr. Sabah Faraj at the seminar hall to shed light on the most important new medical technologies and the pollutants in addition to their physical and genetic effects on human health.
6 . Service laboratory at the college of education for pure sciences Ibn al-Haytham to keep abreast with the devices used in the departments of biology and chemistry.
