President of University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasool received at his office the Spanish ambassador in Iraq, Juan José Escobar Stemmann. The Rector expressed his readiness to open up prospects of cooperation with the Spanish side in various scientific and cultural fields, especially in the case that our university enjoys privileged relations with a number of European scientific institutions. Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Rasool also confirmed his continued and active support in the development of Spanish language students and professors by providing training opportunities for them in Spain. The Spanish ambassador expressed his pleasure for this visit noting that Spanish architects are studying the Islamic architecture by relying on ancient Iraqi civilization in their engineering designs and that the Spanish government is interested in expanding cultural and scientific relations with various Iraqi universities, especially the University of Baghdad, adding that there is a strong desire on both sides to reactivate and open up prospects for cooperation between Baghdad and Madrid in this regard. During this meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of opening a Spanish cultural center for training of students. It is worth mentioning that this meeting was attended by Associate Rector for scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Osama Fadel Abdul Latif, dean of the college of languages and head of the cultural relations department at the presidency of University of Baghdad.
