University of Baghdad participates in the Islamic Day against violence against women


Center for women’s studies at the University of Baghdad participated in the annual conference against violence against women held in the office of the president of National Alliance, Amar al-Hakim under the slogan “Easy, they are the homeland”. The participation of the center was represented by its director Prof. Dr. Siham Mutasher al-Kaabi, Dr. Amna Muhammed Ali who expressed their opinions that have enriched its objectives and recommendations. President of the national alliance, Amar al-Hakim stated in a speech at the opening of the conference that “all bets on foreign enterprises from outside will fail and bounce on their owners with disgrace, pointing out that Iraqis are the most devoted people towards their country”. He called to start rehabilitation programs for Iraqi women to enhance their financial conditions and to rescue those under great violent pressures. Also he invited governmental and non-governmental institutions to assist Iraqi women in this regard so that they can be involved in decision making and in fighting against terrorism as a result of the continuing armed conflicts in Salahuddin, Anbar, Mosul, or tribal conflicts. It is worth mentioned that such conferences dedicated to combat violence against women was held previously by Mr. Amar al-Hakim, leader of the National Alliance for the years (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) came up with recommendations related to executive functions of the government while others related to parliamentary legislation and human rights organizations.
