Symposium on sustainable development in the Iraqi day of environment held at the faculty of science for women

  Department of biology at the faculty of science for women, Baghdad University organized a joint symposium with the center for environmental researches at University of technology at the department hall. The symposium opened this event with a speech by the dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Ahlam Mohammed Farhan on sustainable development and its importance to the environment of Iraq. then the director of the center, Professor Dr. Abdul Hamid Mohammed Jawad al-Obeidi gave his speech that shed light on the concept of modern development in the new world that includes producers and consumers as well as the theme of population growth. The sustainable development is based on three basic savings: natural, human and developing capital (infrastructure, commercial and banking transactions and others). The symposium included delivering two lectures, the first one is on the role of higher education in achieving sustainable development delivered by the teacher Mekdad Abdul Wahab al-Khateeb, whereas the second lecture focused on sustainable development policies in the national environmental strategies given by Dr. Emad Eddin al-Mokhtar. The symposium was attended by a number of professors and staff at the college as well as graduate students concerned with the environmental affair.
