Department of German language organizes a cultural symposium on the role of translation in the convergence of civilizations

  Department of German language at the faculty of languages, University of Baghdad held a symposium entitled (the role of translation in the convergence of civilizations) in the presence of the dean, Prof. Munther Manhal Mohammed. The symposium was administrated by head of department, Prof. Dr. Najat Issa Hassan with the participation of the teaching faculty: Prof. Dr. Muafaq Mohammed Al-Muslih, teacher Bahaa’ Mahmoud Alwan, teacher Maison Ali Rzoki and teacher Rukia Mahmoud. The paper of Dr. Najat Issa dealt with samples of translation as a means of expression of dialogue with others where she clarified multimedia used by the translator. The paper of Dr. Mowaffaq presented some exercises on simultaneous interpretation whereas the paper submitted by the teacher Bahaa’ Mahmoud focused on translating proverbs in Arabic and German. The paper of the teacher Maison Ali shed light on the phenomenon of deletion in both Arabic and German and the teacher Rukia Mahmoud’ paper dealt with the functions and types of texts and their impact on translation. It is worth mentioned that the symposium witnessed a number of interventions by the attendants.
