An instructor and a student at the department of environmental engineering publish a research in a sober scientific journal

Prof. Dr. Zeinab Ziad Ismail and a PhD student from the department of environmental engineering published a scientific research in the American Journal: (Waste Management) of impact factor (3 522) within the classification of “Thomson Reuters” issued Elsevier Pub. House. This research involved developing a new processing method for fluoride-contaminated water using natural materials that don’t produce toxic by-products or polluting the environment. These material are powder manufactured from the residue of livestock and poultry bones and they succeeded in getting fluoride removal rate of (99%) in less than (120) minutes. Also (3) different models were examined to study the kinetics of reactions resulting from the removal process. Moreover, this research has included for the first time the study of the possibility of using of slag resulting from treatment as an alternative to sand that is used in certain ratios within the concrete mix, as well as studying the mechanical properties of concrete which has been prepared. The results showed that this slag can be added to the concrete mix without any negative effects with regard to the mechanical properties, but on the contrary the tests showed that compression tensile property increased to (7.5%).
