University president receives a letter of thanks from the Director General of UNESCO

The Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova dispatched a letter of thanks to Mr. president of the university of Baghdad, professor Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein Abdul Rasoul for the hospitality and reception during the events of the 1st qualitative Islamic conference of the Secretaries Generals of the member states in the Islamic organization for science and culture held in Baghdad. It is worth mentioned that the department of archaeology at the college of arts, Baghdad university embraced a large global campaign entitled “unite for heritage”, which was attended by Dr. Hussein al-Shahristani, the Secretary General of UNESCO, Ms. Irina Bokova, prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein, president of the university, Mr. Adel Sherchab, minister of tourism and some deans of faculties and students of archaeology department at the college of arts. This campaign has been prepared for by the university in collaboration with “UNESCO” and its representatives in Iraq. Ms. Irina Bokova said during her speech that this organization is suppoting the sudents of Iraq to repel the barbarian onslaught aimed at its heritage and antiquities and that UNESCO’s action is directed towards the preservation of antiquities since the responsibility rests with all people and it comes within the international campaign launched by the university of Baghdad to renounce violence, hatred and racial discrimination towards declaring solidarity for heritage conservation and human rights as well as to respond to terrorist attacks, adding that we are moving to disseminate love and forgiveness and the concerted international efforts to build future and preserve the past. Ms. Bokova visited the department of archaeology and met with a group of students in the fourth stage and delivered a short lecture after which the door was opened for debate with them on the issues concerned in the presence of the university president and the dean of the college of arts.
