Symposium in the college of engineering calls for the use of solar energy batteries instead of electricity

The department of chemical engineering in the college of engineering, university of Baghdad organized a symposium on the importance of rationalizing the consumption of electric energy to find ways to compensate for the lack of electricity in Iraq using alternative sources. The symposium was entitled “manufacture and use of modern batteries” and aimed at raising the awareness of the importance of rationalizing energy consumption and finding appropriate alternatives to meet the current need that may reflect positively on the continuation of power supply in our country and reduce power outage by spreading this culture among various segments of Iraqi society. The symposium included a presentation of projects to solve bottlenecks in the distribution network, procedures and measures that must be taken by the consumers for the optimum use of energy without causing damage for the efficiency of electrical appliances and equipment used, urging consumers to find alternatives to electricity especially during the increase of demand in summer, while witnessing a significant rise in temperature. The symposium recommended rationalizing in energy consumption during summer to reduce emissions affecting environment, to support the equipments that rationalize energy, reduce investments required to create new projects that support the national product, calling for establishing a research center to develop batteries in Iraq, need for holding a conference organized by the ministry of industry, Iraqi universities, Baghdad provincial council to discuss the development of batteries, set up future plans for the purchase of necessary equipment for research and appropriate type of batteries that store solar energy in Iraq for use in processing power to remote areas, make use of in irrigation and drainage projects and test production lines to know weaknesses that lead to low efficiency of the batteries produced.
