Professor from the American university delivers a lecture at the college of science for women

  The department of biology at the college of science for women hosted prof. Dr. Nasir al-Idrisi, a professor of environmental science at the American university in Sulaimaniya to give a lecture on the newly discovered organisms in the Arabian sea, their importance in food web and the impact of changes occur in air and sea. In his lecture, al-Idrisi had emphasized in his lecture on the fact that many samples of water from the Tigris were taken for filtration as well as taking advantage of the remaining materials, then conducting genetic tests on the microbes found in Tigris. It is worth mentioned that these samples were collected from southern Iraq, namely from Basra to match them with the samples collected from Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq so that to study the effect of the environmental factors on the proliferation of organisms present in the environment and their relationship to biodiversity in Iraq specifically. Then door was opened for discussion among the audience, professors and graduate students to reach at new scientific results that would contribute in supporting the educational materials in the department of biology. Al-Idrisi promised the attendants that he would give another lecture soon after returning from the United States. It is noteworthy that Dr. al-Idrisi was born in Basra and had completed his undergraduate study in 1984, later he completed M.A in 1989, and obtained PhD from the university of Miami in 1997, he specialized in marine and freshwater environment since 2007, so he is considered one of the most prominent university professors in Sulaymaniyah in biology of water in general.
