Department of Spanish language holds a symposium on violence and dominant Western media

The department of Spanish language at the college of languages held a cultural symposium entitled “western violence and absence of moderator” in the presence of the dean, Dr. Sawsan al-Samer, associate dean for academic affairs, Dr. Munther Mohammed Manhal, associate dean for student affairs, prof. Dr. Thaka’ Moteab Hussein. The symposium was administrated by assistant professor Hadil Adil Kamil, with the participation of prof. Dr. Abeer Hussein and assistant professor Dr. Liqa’ Mohammed Bashir and assistant professor Dr. Riad Mahdi Jassim. Participants shed light on the violence that dominated the West media and that contributed directly to all other forms of violence, so media today is constituting the most influential force in our lives because of the technological progress and development despite that technology brought evils, disasters and psychological, social and educational tragedies and change of values. Our daily life behavior with others became disturbed, unbalanced and unstable, as a result violence has become a phenomenon of multiple forms, depending on cultural, social and linguistic level. They participants said that peace is a psychological state that starts from the inside and spread afterwords till man can reconcile himself, particularly when our students use modern social networking services in developing their scientific level and can keep abreast with the civilizations of the West and can spread the teachings of Islam in non-violence. Propaganda in its essence is an organized process of persuasion to change the mental image of oneself and it is one of the instruments of war when other weapons fail.
