University of Baghdad holds a scientific symposium on shrines and religious mausoleums in Baghdad

  Under the slogan (shrines and mausoleums as centers of unity among Muslims in the face of extremism and excommunicating thought), the center for revival of Arabic scientific heritage held a symposium entitled (shrines and religious mausoleums in Baghdad), under the auspices of secretary general of the Shiite shrines and the president of the university of Baghdad, Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein in cooperation with the general secretariat of the Shiite shrines on the hall of al-Khwarizmi college of engineering, where the symposium was opened by the republican anthem and reciting verses of Quran and read surat al-fatiha for the souls of martyrs of Iraq. The symposium included two lectures, the first delivered by Dr. Abdullah Hamid al-Etabi, director of the center for revival of Arabic scientific heritage in which he confirmed the importance of the religious shrines and their relation with the beliefs of peoples that created a close cohesion and a spiritual integration that leads to build bridges between peoples in different areas of life. The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Hassan Mandeel on the history of the honorable Shiite shrines in Iraq and stated that the presence of many shrines in Iraq, especially in Baghdad and Babil proves that Iraq is the cradle of civilizations, prophets and AHL al-Bayt, saying that Iraq’s honorable shrines are considered as sacred religious centres which promote the values of virtue for the purpose of decent living and tolerance as religious, tourist, social centres of attraction. The symposium was attended by a number of researchers where a number of researches were presented by Dr. Wigdan Fariq Inad, Dr. Saleh Mahdi, Dr. Mustafa Kamel, Dr. Kamal Rashid, Dr. Saadi Ibrahim and Dr. Khamil. The symopium was concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to participants.
