Two discussions at Baghdad university on visual sustainability in the residential spaces and the role of the private sector in infrastructure development

  In the center of urban and regional planning for graduate studies at the university of Baghdad, a master discussion was carried out, submitted by the student (Istabraq Sabah Abdul Reza) entitled (the role of the private sector in the provision of infrastructure services for the housing sector). This study tried to address the problem of the low level of infrastructure services provided by the public sector, qualitative and quantitative as well as the involvement of the private sector to alleviate the financial burden of the state caused by public sector institutions, so the state can use to finance other activities ans achieve efficiency. The research recommended to relief the financial and management burdens on the public sector to simply management, guidance, and oversight of the work of the private sector, while providing a sound environment, convenient for the success of its work, st that to achieve the desired objectives. The researcher suggested the adoption of a strategy for the privatization of infrastructure services in Iraq (high authority for the planning and implementation of the privatization of infrastructure projects) according to a series of planning stages. In the same context, a discussion of a master thesis submitted by the student (Mariam Rasheed Hamoud) entitled (visual sustainability in residential spaces) that addressed the problem of the weakness of integration of cultural, social, economic and environmental dimensions and weakness of cultural visual contact in residential spaces. The study aims to determine the indicators in the pursuit of sustainability in the residential spaces through the development of a definition of this concept and finding the structure that can be used to evaluate an elected compounds in Baghdad within a practical framework, and a strategic vision connects (specialists and population). The research found that visual sustainability in the residential spaces is a complex approach to shift from ineffective treatments to effective treatments where their achievement and evaluation depend on subjective and objective indicators. It is worth mentioned that these two students are among the three students who won the honor the center deanery for he completed his study during the time limit without any extension.
