University of Baghdad reaches at a new technology in laser dental implants

Institute of laser for postgraduate studies at the university of Baghdad discussed a postgraduate diploma in laser medicine submitted by the student “Raed Mohammad Ayoub” entitled (the effectiveness and safety of laser diode in the second phase of dental implant: a comparative study). The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the laser diode (940) nm in the second surgical stage of dental implants, compared with the traditional method by surgical blade. The researcher showed that this method includes two stages of dental implant technology, the first phase is to develop dental implant surgery by using tissue and then to implant. The study indicated the presence of several technologies and stated that if there is a sufficient amount of soft tissue in the edge of the tooth, then laser diode can be used to safely remove these soft tissues and to perform dental implants. In this proactive study, (21) patients were studied where (112) dental implants were performed successfully that diagnosed the effectiveness of bone overlap, then samples were divided into two groups, the first was subjected to detection by surgical blade and the other one was subjected to detection by the use of laser diode (940) NM, that were carried out in the Iraqi specialist center for cosmetic and implant dentistry. The study showed that when using laser diode (940) nm, better results can be reached at with less pain and less inflammatory reaction since laser is considered as the cleanest source of treatment, getting less time to cure, giving oral and healthy blood clothing and lead to wound healing regularly. The discussion committee was consisted of assistant prof. Dr. Ali Shuker Mahmoud, specialized in general surgery (laser surgery) from the laser institute for postgraduate studies at the university of Baghdad, Dr. Tamara Sardar Mohammed Saeed and Dr. Lutfi Ghulam Auzali as supervisor
