At the college of management and economics at the university of Baghdad, a discussion was held of a master thesis in economics submitted by the researcher (Mudhir Numan Abdul Rahman) entitled ” role of agricultural technology in reducing the costs of production of strategic crops in Iraq. This study deals with agriculture as the second top supplier of natural resources in Iraq and the strategic crops in particular, since the modern agricultural technologies are one of the most important basic scientific methods to increase productivity and reduce costs, so it became necessary to emphasize the development of agricultural policies and programs that support the use of modern agricultural technology in the cultivation of strategic crops, especially wheat and rice that are basic crops imported by Iraq in large amounts every year to meet the growing domestic demand. Importing these crops causes waste in foreign currency in addition to another complex problem caused by the control of global monopolies on production technology of buckwheat, rice, thereby lifting prices in world markets. The researcher stressed on the importance modern agricultural technology to increase crop productivity in Iraq which is the cornerstone of the country’s economy by ensuring self-sufficiency and strengthening the capacities of modern agricultural technology and scientific progress. The discussion committee consisted of prof. Balasim Jamil Khalaf, specialized in agricultural economy from the college of management and economics at the university of Baghdad as chairwoman and membership of assistant prof. Hamdiya Shakir Muslim, specialized in economic development, the expert Dr. Abdul Hussein Nuri al-Hakim, specialized in agricultural economy and director of the economics division at the ministry of agriculture and prof. Dr. Suad Qassem Hashem, specialized in economic thought as supervisor.
