Al-Kindy college of medicine publishes a report and gives special tips on treatment of obesity


Unit of researches and treatment of obesity in al-Kindy college of medicine at the university of Baghdad published a detailed report to follow diet for the treatment of obesity, as well as some sport tips within its community service.This includes a diet that reduces obesity by following the instructions for there meals that don’t exceed one thousand and two hundred calories.The report called the patients to have a fat-free breakfast such as boiled eggs, cheese and low-fat milk, half a loaf of bread. At lunch they may have white meat, red meat, not more than 60 g, fish with vegetables, and half a cup of rice, cooked vegetables and green salad which doesn’t contain oil. For dinner, the report stressed that it should consist of a quarter loaf of bread, vegetables, grilled chicken, skim milk, potato. The report stated that it is possible to eat fruits, having sugar-free tea, coffee, drinking adequate amounts of water and switch to other types of meals with the same nutritional value and taste. The report dealt also with sports activities to get rid of obesity such as quick walking, light running down or swimming and doing exercise for an hour a day at least which can be divided into three types besides the daily routine work that is not counted.The report emphasized that exercises should be done gradually starting with warm up and stretching according to body fitness and age. Strengthening exercises should be done twice or three a week starting with weights holding, repeat them ten times for the muscles of (arm, shoulder, chest, abdomen, back, hip and legs). The speed and the strength of exercise can be increased, so the heart rate reaches (220-age x75/100) or to equal 130 rpm for 40 years and it is preferred to wear suitable sport clothes and for patients of some diseases like heart and arteries and joints, it is necessary to consult a physician about the type and duration of the exercise. The unit of researches and treatment of obesity in al-Kindy college of medicine has treated more than 4,000 people with special diets per person according to their age and gender , ad it aims to increase the quality and number of its sports equipment in the future to improve work efficiency and get more results faster for those wishing to treat such diseases. Researches and studies carried by this unit showed that obesity means gathering abnormal fat excess that is dangerous to health which affects and reduces the rates of life expectancy and leads to an increase in the occurrence of many diseases including heart disease, diabetes and some types of cancer and respiratory and joints diseases, etc. Obesity is resulted from the increased intake of calories and lack of movement and sport as well as genetic predisposition or in some cases as a result of gene defect, endocrinology, medications or other causes. In addition to the negative effects on health, obesity leads to many other problems including its impact on employment and increased cost of working that have received the attention of people, companies and the governments concerned. The World Health Organization acknowledged that about a billion and a half suffer from overweight and about 200 million men and 300 million women are suffering from obesity and that obesity rates increase with age until fifty or sixty and it was more common in rich countries but now it has become a global problem and at present more than 60% of adults are overweight and 30 percent are obese in Iraq.
