The central environmental laboratory at the university of Baghdad organizes a workshop on the effects of bacteria on man


The central environmental laboratory at the college of science, university of Baghdad organized his workshop entitled “the effect of the quality of water from different environments on the ability of bacteria to form biomembranous and clogging the plastic bottles”. The importance of this workshop comes from the serious diseases caused by bacteria such as plague and leprosy, so the laboratory work and precise researches to keep up with all new and discovering antibiotics will significantly reduce these risks and the number of deaths caused by them. The workshop included theoretical and practical aspects that lasted for ten days dealing with several themes such as: methods of scientific research, conducting scientific experiments, principles of isolation of bacteria, the role of bacteria in the formation of biomembranous, methods for measurement of biomembranous, chemical analysis of water, the use of modern equipment for analyzing water like (UV and FTIR), methods for processing the results statistically, methods for writing a scientific research, items of scientific research, types of scientific articles published in international sober journals. On the practical side, experiments were conducted in the central environmental laboratory and the environmental health laboratory. Bacteria are considered as unicellular microorganisms such as staphylococcus and bacillus that are gathering and taking many forms like clusters ranging in dimensions (0.5-5 micrometer). Bacteriology is the science that studies bacteria which is a branch of microbiology. The lectures delivered at the workshop stated that bacteria exist in very diverse environments such as soil and water with high proportions of nuclear and acid sulfur waste and the studies have indicated that ten billion bacteria cells are being in each gram of soil and hundreds of thousands of cells in one cubic millimeter of sea water. Within the environmental courses, bacteria play a key and a vital role in cycling the environmental nutrients by nitrogen fixation from the atmosphere. Bacteria are considered as a natural component of human body and there are bacterial cells on the human body that are exceeding in number the human body’s cells and virtually the skin, mouth and the digestive apparatus of human being is full of bacteria that are harmfulness and caused serious diseases like cholera and tuberculosis, but at the same time are useful for health because they help digestion. Bacteria have an industrial importance in terms of utilizing from its biological processes for conducting what is difficult industrially such as waste water treatment and production of antibiotics and other chemicals.
