University of Baghdad concludes the events of the 29th festival of cinema and television arts with winning of TV film entitled “A third homeland”


The hall of the martyr “al-Hakim” at the university of Baghdad embraced the conclusion of  the twenty – ninth festival of cinema and television arts with the participation of 138 TV films. These films aim at development of Iraqi cinema and playing an important role in the cultural and creative aspects in the new society so that to contribute in developing this artistic vital aspect. Deputy minister of higher education and scientific research, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qasim Dos conveyed the greetings of His Excellency prof. Ali Mohammed Hussein al-Adeeb, who sponsored this festival with a special care, said in a speech at the opening ceremony that “this college graduated important fathoms in the arts who have led the artistic and creative movement in Iraq and the world” and he added that “films are considered as one of the important means of communication that are widely used in education, guidance, media and entertainment since they are one of the educational powers in community affecting behavior and emotions, if they are used in a right way, like other media, they will play an important role in thought and life”. Deputy minister asserted that serious and sober films characterized by Islamic values would contribute in forming the cognitive image of the society when reporting facts, stressing that this festival represents the nucleus of the earnest Iraqi cinema that translates the tales of the Iraqi people and the events they have undergone. This was followed by a speech by dean of the college of fine arts, Prof. Dr. Qasim Munis who described the dreams of the young people and this cultural festival full of creative innovations creative, emphasizing that there can be any cultural film industry without recalling the old one mainly because the contemporary cinema is characterized with dream, imagination, freedom and creativity. The dean of the college thanked the support of the ministry of higher education and scientific research, professors and students who participated in this event. Prof. Dr. Raad Abdul-Jabbar, head of the department of film and television arts delivered word of the preparatory committee of the festival in which he stressed on the pursuit of the department to supplement the satellite channels and media with creative graduates. Chairman of the preparatory committee explained that the mechanics used for evaluating the films presented in this festival have relied on forming three committees: sorting committee, nominations committee and jury committee characterized with objectivity, neutrality and professionalism, stressing that everyone involved in this occasion deserves to win the first award in light of such creative films. At the end of the festival, awards and certificates of appreciation were distributed to students where Osama Khairallah won the golden award for his film entitled ” A third homeland “, Hussein Mujbil won the silver award for his film entitled ” the remnants “, while the student Omar Yassin won the bronze award for his film entitled ” until further notice “. Also the festival witnessed distribution of awards for best screenplay won by the student Omar Allawi for his film entitled ” room No. 5 “, award for the best photography won by the student Mustafa Al-Marayati for his film entitled ” come back “, award for best montage won by the student Mustafa Raad Abdul-Jabbar for his film entitled ” kidnapping a university professor ” and award for the best director won by the student Ahmed Karim for his film entitled ” out of cadre “, while the award of the best jury went to the student Saleh Ahmed for his film entitled ” A democrat “. The festival witnessed honoring the administrative deputy minister of higher education and scientific research, Prof. Dr. Qasim Mohammad Dos, president of the university of Baghdad, prof. Dr. Alaa Abdul Hussein and his assistant for administrative affairs, prof. Dr. Hussein Yousef Mahmoud and his assistant for scientific affairs, assistant prof. Dr. Alaa Karim Mohammed, dean of the college of fine arts, prof. Dr. Qasim Munis, honoring the media departments at the ministry of higher education and scientific research and the university of Baghdad, satellite channels, media, jury commities, professors and students. The festival which lasted for four days witnessed presentation of 138 national and comic films of psychological and social dimensions all of which were produced by the students who made use of potential of their department including montage while others relied entirely on their own abilities.
