An instructor at the university of Baghdad gains the U.S. national science award

Prof. Dr. Mahdi Ibrahim al-Tamimi, an instructor at the university of Baghdad – college of agriculture – department of pedology and water resources won the award of the national academy of sciences (NAS) for his research entitled (technology of soil water maintenance to improve the production of vegetables in the highly permeable soils under conditions of scarcity of water and the dry climate in Iraq). This winning project is one of 54 winning proposals at the level of the world out of 237 projects inside the contest that more than 400 researches were presented to and this American institution will this project with U.S. $ 150,000 over three years. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the university of Michigan and by an Iraqi team in Baghdad and Najaf. The research aims for rationing the use of water, fertilizers and increasing the productivity of vegetables grown in soils of high permeability ( sandy ). The project will be a nucleus to inform researchers and scholars, a real twinning of the Iraqi scientific research with the U.S university of Michigan, transferring technology and exchange of experiences and knowledge between the two universities.
