The department of astronomy and space at the college of sciences at the university of Baghdad held its scientific symposium entitled (prospects for image processing and remote sensing in astronomy and space) under the slogan (but say: ‘Lord, increase me in knowledge). The symposium included several lectures such as a lecture by Dr. Ali Talib entitled (Imaging Extra Solar Planets), a lecture by Dr. Bushra Qassim entitled ” Satellite image compression using wavelet transformation”, a lecture by Dr. Uday Hatem Shaaban entitled “Using the techniques of remote sensing and a range of software applications in crisis management ( flood control )”, a lecture by Dr. Ibtisam Fadel entitled ” An analysis of remote sensing images of space “,  a lecture by the instructor Fouad Kazem Mashi entitled “An analysis of organized crime by using remote sensing technologies”. The symposium aims at identifying extensive prospects of the uses of image processing and remote sensing and supplementing  the fields of astronomy and space with software and modern methods for interpreting the physical and astronomical phenomena especially the remote sensing and the uses of  satellite images in the various fields of space through researches and studies.
