The department of petroleum engineering in our college headed the central admission of the engineering group at the level of Iraq for the academic year 2013-2014 with an average of (95.3) and the total degree for differentiation lessons (199). This came just as a reflection of the development happening at the level of oil and gas forms in Iraq and for the large reputation enjoyed by the department of petroleum engineering at the university of Baghdad.

In a conversation with assistant professor Dr. Maha Raouf Abdul Amir, head of petroleum engineering confirmed that the department has expanded the admission plan during the previous years, largely to supplement the Iraqi oil industry with oil engineers of high efficiency and that the department works continuously during the previous years to modernize its curricula and textbooks and entered a set of modern software for the initial and postgraduate students and provided training opportunities for students in the third stage with Schlumberger World. Also received (28) training opportunities for its students with the French company total in Turkey and held a contest for winning projects for the students of the fourth stage and will work through this year to expand its cooperation with international companies and universities to provide training opportunities for our students and opening the prospects for greater cooperation .She added that the department has five doctoral studies in American,  Australian and Indian universities in the specialties of reservoirs, reservoir simulation, drilling and natural gas production. This will contribute in raising degrees of teaching staff and increasing interlock and cooperation with foreign universities.
