Dr. Ahmed Hasan, a professor from the department of astronomy and space at the college of science obtained the membership of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) which is a scientific and international accomplishment achieved by this researcher for his college and country.

This nomination came during the recent meeting in Rome, resulting in this selection although Iraq is not a member in this union which is a precedent for the excellence of Iraqi academics.

The International Astronomical Union is an organization that unites astronomical communities around the world and a member of the International Council for Science (ICSU) which is the official organization responsible for naming stars, planets, asteroids, objects and other space phenomena since its establishment in 1919 in the Constituent Assembly of the International Research Council held in Brussels, Belgium with the aim of promoting and protecting astronomy through collaboration of all countries of the world.
