Assistant professor Dr. Zainab Ziad Ismail awarded the membership of the US Society of Engineering and Environmental Sciences professors (AEESP), becoming the first Iraqi academic researcher getting this scientific membership

Assistant professor Dr. Zainab Ziad Ismail at the Department of Environmental Engineering – Faculty of Engineering – University of Baghdad had awarded the membership of the US Society of Engineering and Environmental Sciences professors (AEESP), becoming the first Iraqi academic researcher getting this scientific membership. This scientific achievement was accomplished through the adoption of the Professional Biography for Dr. Zainab Ziad which includes her practical experience in the fields of applied science in environmental engineering for over 17 years through her previous work in the State Company for Industrial Design and Construction-Ministry of Industry, specifically in the field of design and implementation of treatment plants, industrial and hazardous wastes, as well as participating in the preparation of feasibility studies for industrial projects and evaluate their environmental impacts. In addition she has a number of scientific articles and research papers exceeded 22 manuscripts which were published in international journals and the proceedings of international conferences, as well as additional publications in local scientific journals, a patent in the field of industrial wastewater treatment, the membership the editorial board of two international scientific journals in global environmental disciplines in addition to the membership of the editorial board of Journal of Engineering / College of Engineering. Along, with her previous academic position as a visiting professor for two years at one of the prestigious US universities (Georgia Institute of Technology) in engineering disciplines.

The AEESP association is made up of professors in academic programs who provide education in the sciences and technologies of environmental protection. It is founded in 1963 as a private nonprofit organization; AEESP has more than 800 members of professors and researchers in the science of environmental engineering. The most important goals of AEESP is to provide networking opportunities for members to develop their academic programs and plans in teaching and scientific research in multiple aspects of environmental engineering including, for example, water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, environmental management, environmental chemistry, techniques ecological, environmental transport processes and mathematical modeling, radioactive contamination, and others.

One of the activities of this association is the organization of scientific conferences every two years in the environmental aspects to allow the members to communicate and cooperate with each other through presenting and discussing their research work. The latest conference was held in 2011 and hosted by the University of South Florida, Fl, USA, knowing that Dr. Zainab had actively participated in this conference and presented her research paper entitled (Application of a binary mixture of industrial solid wastes in concrete mixes) which got the appreciation and praise of researchers participating in the conference. Dr. Zainab had another participation in the AEESP conference held in 2005 and hosted by Clarkson University in collaboration with the Syracuse University in USA.

The Association members are classified into groups, normally due to their research interests and fields of work. For Dr. Zainab, she was classified within the group specialized in the biological, chemical, and physical techniques for water and wastewater treatment as well as the management of hazardous waste materials, and their control.
